A Day in the Life

Sustainable G 2Pacific Quest at Reeds Bay is the most clinically innovative outdoor therapeutic program for young adults. We are located directly on the Hilo Bay coastline (called Reeds Bay) on the Big Island of Hawaii. The site encompasses 5 acres of large open spaces, which contains ancient botanical gardens, freshwater ponds and private access to the Pacific Ocean. The facility also includes an 8,000 square foot building, which is
comprised of a commercial kitchen, sleeping quarters and recreational space for yoga, group sessions and gathering. Our focus is on providing sustainable living skills for young adults through outdoor programming, by offering a holistic, yet highly clinical approach to treatment that is individualized for each young adult.

Life at Pacific Quest is a community-living experience, providing young adults an opportunity to practice relevant and essential life skills. We provide a very structured environment with room to achieve individual goals and make personal choices. From the moment they arrive, young adults are held responsible and accountable for their own actions.

Who We Are 2Days consist of many components: Self-care and hygiene, meal preparation and planning, horticultural therapy, reflection, individual and group therapy, group initiatives, communication, journaling, goal development and evaluation, as well as wellness education, physical activity and community service. Within each of these components, each young adult’s individualized treatment plan is reflected in these daily activities. Activities vary according to individual needs.

When appropriate, young adults embark on group outings to take in the sights of the Big Island. Day outings include visits to various beaches (white, black and green sand), Volcanoes National Park, Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Gardens, Mauna Kea Summit Observatory and many other special places. These outings also serve as a chance for our young adults to practice skills off campus and interact with others.

YA-ditl3During the latter stages of the program, young adults participate in various community service activities. Pacific Quest has partnered with several local groups to provide rich opportunities for young adults to serve others by volunteering. Visit our blog to see pictures and read about some of our adventures and service.
