Academics
For many young adults at Pacific Quest, poor academic performance has played a large role in the development of negative coping skills and behaviors. Instead of perpetuating an all-to-common sense of disengaged learning, Pacific Quest inspires young adults to play an active role in their education through participation in an experiential community.
Pacific Quest’s comprehensive curriculum is designed not only to teach the connection between the physical, mental and emotional issues young adults are managing and related insights they are learning, but also to actively engage individuals in learning about the surrounding environment through diverse gardens, the biosphere of Hawaii, the history of the islands and the local culture. Young adults are immersed in a foundation of learning, through their relationship to the environment and the community and through the development of lifelong learning strategies.
Pacific Quest allows some participants the opportunity to complete accredited classes through independent study (offered through Blueprint Education), or to work with their current school to complete coursework they have already begun, when appropriate. This option may not be right for all young adults, but may be possible for those who are highly engaged and motivated (with therapist approval).
Whether a young adult is focused solely on Pacific Quest’s programmatic curriculum or additional coursework through Blueprint Education, the goal is to reawaken a desire for learning and engaging in the world around them. Young adults begin to develop better organizational and time management skills along with greater confidence in their ability to manage their education. Independent study classes can also help a young adult “catch up” on missing credits quickly and effectively. This may be helpful for students who have missed a large number of academic credits.
Additional coursework may not be appropriate for all young adults. For more information on these academic offerings, please speak to and Admissions Counselor. If you’d like additional information on our independent study affiliate, including a listing of courses offered, please visit www.blueprinteducation.org.
