Sustainable Growth™
The mission of Pacific Quest is to provide a safe, structured, and natural environment for individualized and sustainable growth. This experiential environment encourages the student’s personal growth in a culture of unconditional support and personal responsibility.
At Pacific Quest, Sustainable Growth™ has many applications: in the gardens, with one’s personal physical, mental and emotional health, in relationships and family, experience and openness, community and service. We begin with a strong foundation of basic concepts and students advance based on their own growth. We chose this environment because it is easier to see how fast growth and change can occur. This growth and experience will serve as a healthy foundation for the rest of their lives.
Our program starts with a focus on basic health and hygiene and any physical health or safety concerns. We teach and students experience proper nutrition, exercise, breathing, sleep, and the connection or balance of the mind & body. We then explore their past and look for patterns and significant events to see how they have shaped their lives. Eventually, we discuss family and their relationship with their peers and the greater community.
Early Hawaiians created incredible sustainable agriculture systems that are discussed and represented in Pacific Quest’s more modern environment. Working with the land to create food that you eat has a great effect on most of our students as they feel more a part of the world. Many of our students, families and staff continue to garden at home and elsewhere as a result of this connection.
Cooking, washing, cleaning and other life skills are mastered as they learn to do this
individually as well as in a variety of group roles and responsibilities. We try and maintain a schedule that mirrors the normal schedule of the working world. We want to
create an environment where working hard and being open to new growth can feel good and healthy. When they struggle, give up or oppose, their growth may slow, but it becomes about themselves, not their environment.
Ultimately, we want our students to have a better awareness of themselves, a much better set of life and living skills and the momentum to be successful in the future.
