PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Mike McKinney, BA Political Science, WEMT


Mike earned his BA from California Polytsechnic University in San Luis Obispo and his background includes a successful career in the business world. In 1998, Mike began to work with at-risk students at SUWS/Idaho. There he discovered his passion for inspiring adolescents and met his future wife, Suzanne. Mike later worked with the Oakley School and Coral Reef Academy before co-founding Pacific Quest. He is now married with two young boys and is involved in every aspect of the program.


PUBLIC RELATIONS
Suzanne McKinney, MA Special Education
Suzanne earned her BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Masters degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University. In 1999, she moved to Idaho and began work at SUWS/Idaho as Director of Continuing Care. After SUWS, she worked as an independent educational consultant working with students and families around the country. With a vast knowledge of the industry and her experience with families and referral sources, Suzanne serves as a liaison for Pacific Quest.


ADMISSIONS DIRECTOR
Marney Sullivan, B.A., N.L.P. Master Practitioner

Marney has been passionately working in Experiential Education and Wilderness Therapy for ten years. In 1997 Marney took her love for the outdoors, her interest and concern for adolescents, and her desire for service into the desert with SUWS/ Idaho. Initially she worked as a field instructor, and in 2000 Marney obtained Master Practitioner status in Neuro Linguistics and continued her work as a Field Supervisor and Counselor. Also a certified yoga teacher, Marney is committed to the health and happiness of the individual, the family unit, and the community. As Director of Admissions at Pacific Quest, she strives to meet the unique needs of each student and family.

COUNSELING DIRECTOR
Anthony (Toby) Mautz, MSW
Toby has a BA in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. After working for a nonprofit Residential Treatment Center for two years in the Boston area, he moved to Salt Lake City where he worked on a grant for the public school system. Toby then served as a primary therapist at Aspen Ranch and Aspen Achievement Academy and went on to become Clinical Director at AAA in 2003. Most recently Toby served as Director of Clinical Services for an educational consulting firm, coordinating student and family treatment services. Toby brings years of clinical and managerial experience and sophistication to Pacific Quest’s team. His enthusiasm and innovativeness is a good match for our progressive approach and unique environment.

COUNSELOR
Hilary Moses, MSW
Hilary is an LCSW with over eight years of experience working with adolescents and families in many different settings. She earned her MSW from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research in Pennsylvania. She spent the past four years working for the SUWS Adolescent and Youth Programs, initially as a Field Instructor, then as a Therapist and most recently as the Clinical Director. Hilary coordinates and implements the Individual and Group Counseling within our diverse, experiential environment.


COUNSELOR
Mary Beth Coffman, MSW
Mary Beth received her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno and her Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Utah.  She comes to Pacific Quest from a prominent wilderness program based in Utah, where, after serving as an intern and a field guide, she has held the position of Primary Therapist for adolescents for two years. Mary Beth has been an integral part of the parent program and helped create a “Family Packet” which is used throughout the program. Before that, Mary Beth served as an intern at a Residential Treatment Center in Utah where she trained in DBT Therapy and Chemical Dependency. She has extensive experience with children ages 5-18 in a variety of settings, but is most interested in working with adolescents in an outdoor setting. Mary Beth brings a broad knowledge of wilderness therapy and family and adolescent counseling. Together with her enthusiasm and professionalism, she will be a superb addition to our team.


FIELD DIRECTOR
Chris Kaiser, WFR, Lifeguard
Over the last 7 years, Chris has worked with SUWS/Idaho, Catherine Freer, the Oakley School, The Boys Club, and the School of Lost Borders. As co-founder of PQ, Chris brings his belief of structure and personal responsibility to the program. Chris is the head of our Rites of Passage component and works closely with our staff and students to provide a consistent and congruent experience.


FIELD SUPERVISOR
Brian Hannon, WFR, NVCI
Brian has extensive experience in the area of wilderness therapy. In his seven years at SUWS Adolescent and Youth Program, Brian served as a field instructor and then moved into the role of Field Director in which he managed, hired, supervised and trained a large team of instructors. Brian then became a transport agent based in Portland transferring students from their homes to programs around the country. Most recently, Brian worked for two years as a one-on-one ABA therapist for a 13 year old autistic child. He is a gifted guitar, mandolin, ukulele player and artist. Brian’s sincerity, dedication and creativity are a great addition to the PQ team.

LOGISTICS SUPERVISOR
Kawika Delao
Kawika Delao was born and raised on the island of Hawaii He earned a B.A. in Psychology at Colorado State University and is a military veteran. As an avid surfer and hiker, Kawika enjoys sharing his love of the islands unique landscape and cultural heritage during our weekly group outings. He also brings his own perspective of having attended boarding schools and similar programs as a teen. Kawika’s goal is to provide the students with memorable island adventures that are safe and educational.

WELLNESS DIRECTOR
Dr. Britta Zimmer
Dr. Britta Zimmer is a licensed Naturopathic Physician, who received her bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and her doctorate from the prestigious National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Zimmer completed a comprehensive Naturopathic Family Practice Residency in Portland Oregon which included extensive work at Outside In, a community clinic providing health care for at risk youth. Before moving to Hawaii, Dr. Zimmer, was part of a group practice in Portland Oregon specializing in general family practice medicine, women’s health issues and adolescent health care. While living in Portland, Dr. Zimmer was adjunct faculty at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine where she taught future naturopathic physicians clinical diagnosis skills and homeopathy. She is a licensed physician in the states of Hawaii and Oregon. Naturopathic Physicians (N.D.s) are trained to serve as primary care practitioners who are experts in the prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment of both acute and chronic health conditions. Her goal is for the students at PQ is to feel empowered and inspired to take control of their own health by learning about nutrition, the healing arts, and how their body works. These health practices can be integrated into the students’ lifestyles and daily habits. Dr. Zimmer enjoys teaching, yoga, exercising, cooking and spending time with her husband and 2 year old daughter.

OFFICE MANAGER
Cyndi Desha
Cyndi joined Pacific Quest this summer in the much awaited and needed position of Office Manager. Cyndi was an office manager for a prominent retail store for six years before moving into managing a pediatrician's office in Hilo for another six years. After a year as a preschool teacher, she has returned to the office setting to help keep us all organized and running smoothly. Cyndi is a native of Maui and lives in Hilo with her husband, and daughter, Lacie.

NUTRITION & WELLNESS CONSULTANT
Julie Lerner
Julie Lerner, founder of WholeBody Nutrition, studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in NYC and received her Pilates training from Power Pilates NYC in 2002. She is a certified Holistic Health Counselor by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Prior to studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Julie received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado and a Master’s Degree from San Francisco State University. After successful careers in the corporate world, and by solving her own health problems with stress management, fatigue, headaches and digestion, she saw an opportunity to help other busy professionals find ways to live healthier, more energetic and balanced lifestyles. This journey led her to a certification in Pilates and a degree in holistic health and integrative nutrition.
