Living and working closely with nature is an incredibly rich and rewarding experience.
The year-round growing season of Hawaii creates an abundance of work and reward on our 8 acre, organic farm designed specifically by and for Pacific Quest. Our students learn and master the basics of gardening (soil, composting, nursery, fertilizing, care and maintenance, mulching, watering and transplanting) as they move though the program. These roles provide concrete metaphors for students to learn and develop their own health and growth. The relevance of their hard work is seen immediately as students turn dirt, rocks and seeds in to productive beds of greens, vegetables and fruits.
The PQ base camp model allows our students to cultivate a strong connection to their environment. Students create group and individual land projects as well as maintain and care for the existing systems and crops developed by our previous students. They learn to appreciate the value of community and legacy. This connection fosters a sense of stewardship and respect for themselves, their environments and their relationships.
